Board of Directors

Meet your Oakridge Community Association 2020-21 Board of Directors

President, Brian Pedlar

I am Brian Pedlar, the President of the OCA. I have lived in Oakridge since 1994 and have been on the OCA board since 2012. Prior to that I held various positions including President on the community hockey board that has seen many name changes and growth as new communities joined together to form what is now Southwest Hockey. I believe the Oakridge community is a wonderful place to live offering a wide variety of amenities to all residents to enjoy and remain as such for many generations to follow.

Past President, Gerry Stoddart

Matt Joyce, Treasurer

Matt has lived in Oakridge for almost 30 years, and he’s not much older than that. He has lived in three separate homes in the community and started his own family minutes away from his childhood home. Matt enjoys playing (and now teaching) hockey on the outdoor rink with his three-year-old son, Jack, and will get his three-month-old daughter, Charlie, out there as soon he can find a pair of skates that fit.

Birgit Granberg, Secretary

Birgit moved to Calgary in 2006 to become the director of a new regional office for a small not-for-profit organization. In 2012, she transitioned to the oil and gas world, ultimately finding her niche as a human resources specialist in the area of harassment and discrimination prevention. Birgit is experienced in policy and process development and possesses in-depth knowledge of Canadian Human Rights and Labour legislation. Birgit lives in Oakridge with her husband, two little girls, and dog, Cinnamon.

Steve Hunter, VP Sports

Steve grew up in Braeside, has lived in Oakridge since 2010 and loves everything the community has to offer. You can find him with his wife and kids at the dog park, running/riding around the reservoir, or at the new pump park. He’s looking to help Oakridge continue to grow and establish itself as one of Calgary’s most socially diverse and active communities.

Rachael McCarthy, Director at Large

Hugh Stewart, Director Civic Affairs

Hugh and Miranda moved to Oakridge in 2012. Hugh worked as an engineer in the oil and gas Industry for most of his career and retired in late 2019. He joined the board in 2019 as VP Civic Affairs. He reached out to other area community associations and formed the District 32 team to align concerns and ideas that were communicated to the City of Calgary and Ward 11 Councillor Jeromy Farkas.

A year ago, Hugh encouraged the boarde to approve a Community Garden program. Despite Covid-19 complications and restrictions, a team of Oakridge Community Garden (OCG) volunteers and key sponsors built raised beds and other critical garden facilities. They planted and harvested many edibles, donated to the Food Bank, and held multiple events such as plant exchanges and concerts. Hugh is passionate about continuing to contribute to a healthy community.

Hugh’s other passions are his family, dog walking, cross-country skiing, kayaking, reading, and listening to music.

Terry Kemp, Director Civic Affairs

Dale Evans, Community Liaison

Gary Davies, Director Communications

Gary has lived in Oakridge for 10 years, with his wife Allison, and three children Will, Cam, and Georgia. When he’s not volunteering for the Oakridge Community Association or penning his irregular blog, the Oakridge Monitor, Gary plays hockey with the Oakridge Oldtimers in the winter and golfs at Priddis Greens in the summer. In between, he pays the bills as the President/CEO of the Canadian Sport Institute – Calgary at WinSport.

Dave Thomson, Director of Social Affairs
